"Eating Disorders For Dummies" Author Endorses RESILIENT-YOU®
As a culture we Americans are relentless in our pursuit of self-improvement. We want to look better, feel better, be better. A booming market in self-help products serves our insatiable urge for personal betterment. But sadly, this worthy intention has spawned a lot of false self-improvement gods. Many well-intentioned self-help products capitalize on the hunger for personal improvement without being able to deliver because they set you in pursuit of the wrong thing. For example, people with eating disorders, whom I see in my practice, have gotten hooked on the belief in thin as the quality that will allow them to feel good about themselves. Along with an alarming number of their non-eating disordered fellow citizens, they have been avid consumers of even the most dangerous products and practices that promise to make them thin. Other false gods of self-improvement include excesses of cosmetic surgery, relentless pursuit of just the right ornamentation for self or home, food fads, six-pack abs, cults, or even seemingly-benign practices such as belief in self or the universe that skip the ground work of personal development.
Enter Elizabeth’s Lehmann’s superbly-crafted “RESILIENT-YOU”, a skill-building audio program that provides a refreshing and richly rewarding exception. Offering “simple, powerful ways to regulate stress and overwhelm”, it hits the genuine self-improvement mark for several reasons.

First of all, deeply understanding that in order to be reliable and lasting, well-being has to emanate from within, Lehmann sets her listener in pursuit of a quality that’s guaranteed to deliver on well-being. That quality is resilience, which Lehmann likens to the sturdy tree that can bend with strong winds (think: life adversities) and then right itself. “Resilient-You” explains in simple, accessible language how a person can develop personal resilience and then takes the listener through a series of exercises each of which contributes to building this essential quality.
Beyond aiming at the right quality, “RESILIENT-YOU” is also a right product. This is due to the superlative caliber of Lehmann’s work. She offers a distillation of years of clinical practice, combined with a clear map of what human beings need in order to thrive and a conspicuous belief that we each possess within us the necessary ingredients, just waiting to be mined. “Inside each of us,” Lehmann assures us, “is an inner wisdom that knows exactly what we need.” Practices such as grounding, physical calming, and connecting with life-affirming resources are each part of a resilience-building journey, with Lehmann skillfully and gently guiding the listener–participant.
On a production level, the “RESILIENT-YOU” program aims to engage us through several sensory modalities. Lehmann’s voice is both strong and soothing, imparting calm and confidence. Her skills as a professional photographer are exquisitely served up in images richly evocative of the emotional themes she covers. Scoring by Rick Savage successfully enhances the overall tone and mood.
“RESILIENT-YOU” is the total package. It sells the right product, artfully crafted by a master clinician. While Lehmann pitches her program to people who struggle with a daily sense of vulnerability and overwhelm, there is virtually no one for whom resilience building would not be beneficial. I am delighted to have this wonderful resource to recommend to my clients — and anyone else who wishes to feel more confident and solid in their own skin, “empowered,” as Lehmann says, to “respond to life’s challenges.”
